Terms of Service

Effective 8 September 2026.

These terms are a contract between you and the sole proprietor operating Compressr ("we", "us"), based in Oregon, United States. "You" means the person using Compressr. Questions: support@compressr.io.

The short version. Compressr is a browser extension that levels audio volume. It runs on your own device and never records or uploads your audio. A free version exists. Pro can be bought once, forever, or subscribed to yearly. A yearly subscription renews automatically until you cancel. You can get a refund within 14 days, for any reason. If something goes wrong, what we owe you is capped at what you paid us. The full text below governs; this summary does not.

1. Agreement to these terms

You accept these terms by installing Compressr or by purchasing a paid plan. If you do not agree, do not install it, and uninstall it if you already have.

You must be at least 13 years old, and old enough to enter a contract where you live. If you are buying on behalf of an organization, you confirm you are allowed to bind it.

2. What Compressr does, and what it does not promise

Compressr measures the loudness of audio playing in your browser and adjusts the playback volume toward a target level you choose. It is a convenience tool.

We do not promise that it works with every site, every video player, or every browser version. Some sites and some DRM-protected streams do not expose audio to extensions at all, and Compressr cannot process what it cannot reach. Browser vendors change extension APIs without notice and can break functionality outside our control.

Compressr is not a hearing-protection device, a medical device, or a safety system. Do not rely on it to prevent loud sounds. Always set a comfortable system and browser volume independently.

3. Your account

A free installation needs no account. Buying a paid plan creates an account identified by your email address.

You are responsible for keeping access to that email secure, because it is how account recovery works. Tell us promptly at support@compressr.io if you believe someone else has gained access.

A paid plan is licensed to you personally, for your own installations. To keep that workable while preventing wholesale sharing, we limit how many new installations a single account may activate in a rolling 30-day window. Ordinary use, including reinstalling or using several of your own computers, will not hit this limit.

4. Acceptable use

Do not:

5. Your audio and your data

We never receive your audio. All measurement and volume adjustment happens locally, inside your browser. No audio is recorded, transmitted, or stored by us, in any form, at any time.

We do not collect the URLs you visit, the sites you play media on, your browsing history, or your IP address for tracking purposes.

What we do hold for a paid account is limited to your email address, your purchase and subscription status from our payment processor, and opaque identifiers for your installations. Full detail is in our Privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

Your settings and profiles are yours. They live in your browser. If a plan includes cloud sync, the synced settings remain yours and you can delete them by deleting your account.

6. Intellectual property

We own Compressr, its source code, its audio processing design, its name, and its logo. Buying a plan buys you a licence to use the software, not ownership of it.

Your licence is personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable if you materially breach these terms.

7. Payment, billing and renewal

Prices are in US dollars and shown before you pay. Applicable sales tax or VAT is added at checkout and shown before you confirm.

Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.

Pro Lifetime is a single payment. It unlocks Pro features in the versions of Compressr we publish, for as long as we publish it. It is not a promise of perpetual future development, and it does not entitle you to a different product if Compressr is discontinued.

Pro+ is a yearly subscription that renews automatically. You will be charged the then-current yearly price each year on the anniversary of your purchase, using your saved payment method, until you cancel. You can cancel at any time, from the billing portal linked in the extension, or by emailing support@compressr.io. Cancelling stops the next charge; it does not refund the current period, and you keep Pro+ until the period you have paid for ends.

If a renewal payment fails, we may retry it and may suspend Pro features until it succeeds.

We may change prices. A price change never affects a payment already made, and for subscriptions we will tell you by email at least 30 days before it applies to your renewal, so you can cancel first. Pro Lifetime, once bought, is never charged again.

8. Refunds

We offer a 14-day refund, for any reason, on both Pro Lifetime and the first payment of a Pro+ subscription. The full policy, including how to request one and how long it takes, is in our Refund policy, which forms part of these terms.

9. The free version

The free version is provided at no charge and may change or end at any time. It carries no service commitment. Nothing in the free version obliges you to buy anything.

10. Availability

Compressr itself runs on your device and keeps working offline. Our servers are used only to verify a paid entitlement, and they check in periodically rather than on every use, so a short outage does not interrupt your Pro features.

We do not offer a uptime guarantee or a service level agreement. We may take systems down for maintenance, and we are not liable for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, including browser vendor changes, network failures, and acts of government.

11. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

Except where law does not allow it, Compressr is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Our total liability to you, for all claims combined, is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. If you paid us nothing, our liability is limited to fifty US dollars.

We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or damage to equipment or hearing, even if we were told such damage was possible.

Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions. Where that is so, the exclusions apply only as far as the law permits, and nothing here removes liability we cannot lawfully exclude, including for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence. If you are a consumer, you keep all rights your local consumer law gives you, and nothing in these terms reduces them.

12. Indemnification

You agree to cover our reasonable losses and legal costs arising from your use of Compressr in breach of these terms or of the law. This does not apply to claims arising from our own wrongdoing.

13. Termination

You may stop using Compressr at any time by uninstalling it, and may close your account by emailing us.

We may suspend or end your access if you materially breach these terms, including the acceptable use rules. Where the breach can be fixed and was not deliberate, we will normally warn you first and give you a chance to fix it.

If we terminate your account without cause, we will refund the unused portion of a subscription. If we terminate it because you breached these terms, we will not.

Sections 5, 6, 11, 12 and 14 survive termination.

14. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live.

Talk to us first. Most problems are settled by emailing support@compressr.io, and we ask that you try that before starting formal proceedings.

We do not require you to arbitrate, and we do not ask you to waive class actions. Disputes may be brought in the state or federal courts of Oregon, and either of us may bring a qualifying claim in small claims court instead. If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, you may also bring proceedings in the courts where you live.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. For material changes affecting paid customers, we will give at least 30 days' notice by email before they take effect, and you may cancel and request a pro-rata refund of any unused prepaid period if you do not accept them. Continuing to use Compressr after a change takes effect means you accept it.

The effective date at the top always shows the current version, and past versions are visible in the project's public source history.

16. Miscellaneous

If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer your rights under these terms without our consent; we may transfer ours if Compressr is sold, on notice to you. These terms, together with the privacy and refund policies, are the entire agreement between us about Compressr.

Notices to you go to your account email. Notices to us go to support@compressr.io.
